Snails

All land snails are gastropod mollusks, meaning that they belong to the same group as octopuses, which are part of the phylum Mollusca. At the same time they are members of the class Gastropoda, which includes all snails and slugs. Being a mollusk means lacking an internal skeleton and bones but snails are not unprotected.

Snails are a good source of protein. They are rich in iron and calcium but low in fat and cholesterol compared to other animal protein sources like poultry, pigs, cows and goats. They are environment friendly because unlike pigs and poultry neither the snail nor its droppings emit offensive odours. Snails can also be reared in the backyard. An average Snail is comprised of 80% water, 15% protein, and 2.4% fat which is primarily healthy. They contain essential fatty acids, calcium, iron, selenium and magnesium.

Snails are a rich source of vitamins too also incredibly packed with vitamins E, A, K and B12. They are an ideal weight watchers diet because they are good sources of proteins but low in calories and fat; imagine that for a 100-gram serving of snail, you have about 90calories. An average snail also contains a glycoprotein which is believed to carry cancer-fighting properties. The mucous secreted by these creatures contains a copper compound which helps in healing injuries or scalding and also, preventing heart disorders.

In addition to all these health benefits, snails are tasty, juicy, delicious, nutritious and cheaper than any red meat.

Our snails are bred naturally by pasture / free range method to produce high quality snail meat. 18-month old snail breeders are suitable for individuals who are looking to start their own snail farms. We deliver year round on our weekly route to stores, cold rooms, markets, top class restaurants and individuals. Our snails are of several heritage breeds including the Forest or giant African snail (archatina fulica), the giant West African or Banana Rasp snail (archachatina marginata) etc. We have been selectively breeding our snails for many years to produce routs that pasture well in our natural environment with excellent taste and flavour. With each generation, we breed the best of the best and eat the rest. Gradually over time, this results-in the improvement of breeders; strong, fertile and prolific snails adapted to our climate with pasture grazing ability, to name a few of the traits we select for reproduction purposes.
